Bill Cunningham the legend of the street style photography, ascetic, passionate, genius. Anna Wintour ones said “We all get dressed for Bill”.
Bill Cunningham was one of very few people who loved fashion, but not because of money or fame. Famed for biking to events around the city always in a bright blue jacket, Cunningham starred in the 2010 documentary Bill Cunningham New York. A reluctant subject, he was shown going about his normal routine, capturing high society and street style alike.
“Fashion is as vital and as interesting today as ever,”
“I know what people with a more formal attitude mean when they say they’re horrified by what they see on the street. But fashion is doing its job. It’s mirroring exactly our times.”
It so hard to write that this beloved social photographer after nearly 40 years working for New York Times has died at the age of 87. He was hospitalized on June 23 after suffering a stroke. His last spread appeared in the Times on June 12.
